Isle of Palms Memory Books Added To Gallery
by Bingle on Jul.29, 2007, under Family Matters
While we were enjoying our “Bingle Family Get-Together” on the Isle of Palms in South Carolina back in June, Linda presented the family with some “memory books” and asked that everyone take some time to contribute to them in some way, even if it was just to sign their name. In the end, everyone contributed (at least) an entire page.
Karen and I have finally scanned in the memory books that we created while we were there.
Taiki Turns 4!
by Redford on Jul.29, 2007, under Rob Redford Family
Taiki Mahlon Shank turned 4 years old Saturday, July 28. He celebrated a week early with friends from school and soccer at a birthday party in the park – complete with games and a Power Ranger pinata. Then the Redfords/Shanks celebrated on the 28th by playing games at ChuckECheese followed by dinner at Chili’s. Everyone had a great time. Be sure to check out the pictures.
Happy Birthday, Taiki!
Jim Bingle Home from the Hospital

Thursday’s catheterization to place a stent in one of Dad’s coronary arteries was a success!
Dad was released from the hospital on Friday afternoon and is now recuperating at home.
While I’m sure he would enjoy hearing from everyone, please remember that they are on Eastern Daylight Time and that Mom and Dad typically go to bed “early”.

Jim Bingle in the Hospital – Update
by Bingle on Jul.25, 2007, under Jim Bingle
Well, the cardiac catheterization went fine on Tuesday except they didn’t end up putting in a stent. Instead, we were informed that Dad would need valve replacement and at least a single bypass. Talk about a shock!
Figuring that they would want to do the surgery right away, Mom and I stayed at the hospital until late Tuesday night to confirm whether surgery was going to occur on Wednesday or not. It wasn’t. Instead, we met with a cardiac surgeon on Wednesday to discuss Dad’s condition and options. Due to the recent brain insult and the need for heavy-duty blood thinners for the open-heart surgery, the surgeon wanted to wait 6 weeks to see if there was any change in a CAT scan of the brain before doing the surgery (not wanting to risk further insult to the brain due to bleeding).
The cardiologist had other ideas though. A couple of hours after talking with the surgeon, we found out that the cardiologist didn’t want to risk waiting 6 weeks to address the blocked artery, so Dad is now scheduled for another cardiac catheterization on Thursday to place a stent in the clogged artery. The valve replacement will have to wait, though.

Jim Bingle in the Hospital
by Bingle on Jul.24, 2007, under Jim Bingle
Karen and the girls and I were out visiting the folks on Saturday when it appears that Dad had a TIA (transient ischemic attack) or “mini-stroke” after dinner. We were right there when it happened and called 911 right away. After a lengthy stay in the ER, they eventually admitted him to the hospital early Sunday morning and he appears to be doing fine. On Monday evening his cardiac doctor was in to see him. Based on the EKG they did Saturday night and the sonogram of his heart that was done on Sunday, he feels that a cardiac catherization is necessary to address a buildup of plaque. At this point I don’t know whether they feel that buildup was related/responsible for the TIA on Saturday or just figured they might as well take care of it while he is in the hospital anyway. They will be doing the catherization on Tuesday (this) afternoon.
Mom appears to be holding up to the stress pretty well, but please keep both of them in your prayers.

Happy 4th of July!
by Bingle on Jul.04, 2007, under Richard Bingle Family
Just a quick post to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July!
For the last couple of years we’ve attended the “Family Friendly Fourth” up in Zellwood, FL. It is co-sponsored by the local Christian radio station, Z88.3 and featured a (free) concert by several Christian artists and fireworks. Unfortunately, apparently something fell through this year and they aren’t doing it. I guess it is ok, though, since it has poured rain here several times today and we likely would have ended up miserable. Well, at least with the rain it will be harder for the neighbors to start the yard on fire with their fireworks that way.
Anyway, we’ve decided to chill at home today and tonight. For those of you who are going to a fireworks show or lighting off your own, we hope you have a safe time.

Thank You, Family
by jdbmlb778 on Jul.01, 2007, under Jim Bingle Family
Thank you all for a wonderful time in South Carolina. Karen and Rich, for all the work you did in planning all the food and finding such a nice place, it was great. Thank you Linda for all your thoughtfulness in the memory books. Just think, everyone took part. The grandchildren and great grandchildren with all their smiles and giggles. What a wonderful memory. We found the cat spoiled, fat, and glad to see us.

Apple iPhone
by Bingle on Jul.01, 2007, under Richard Bingle
Well, Apple has done it again. This time it is the iPhone, the coolest/slickest looking cross between a phone and an iPod yet. With its touch-screen interface and its orientation sensing widescreen mode, it is sure to be a hit just as a video iPod. Unfortunately, the price ($500-$600) plus the 2 year commitment to a $60 per month plan with AT&T just make it way too expensive for me to justify getting one. I’ll stumble along with my work supplied Blackberry 7520 for a phone (blech!) and my trusty 2nd generation iPod for my music.
I guess I’m still waiting for that iPod with the built-in 3D holographic projector…
