Tonight my Mom was re-united with my Dad, this time forever.

Between the grief of losing my Dad earlier this year, struggling for years with health complications due to a failing liver, and being alone for the first time in her life, Mom’s overall health had rapidly deteriorated the last two months. It was hard to see her wasting away physically and withdrawing mentally.

I am thankful that Don was able to visit with her last month, that Chris and Belinda were able to be here these last few days, and that family was with her at the end.

I love you, Mom!

James D. Bingle 7/20/1930 – 4/3/2015

On Good Friday I received word that my father, James Bingle, had passed away while being treated for pneumonia in Prescott, AZ.

Dad had many challenges over the last several years. Several small and a couple of larger strokes, valve replacement surgery and complications afterwards, sleep apnea, a bad reaction to a blood transfusion, diabetes, a pacemaker, multiple falls. Many of the things he had once spent hours doing were no longer possible or enjoyable.

On April 3rd his fight came to an end and he entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior.

I love you, Dad!

Guess Who Got An iPhone?

by on Apr.28, 2013, under Marge Bingle

Guess who finally got an iPhone today?

Not me!

Mom had picked up a cheap phone about 6 months back from Walmart to replace her fairly new flip phone (still under contract) that had somehow stopped working. When I recently discovered that her replacement phone didn’t have Bluetooth and pointed out to her that meant that her Zomm was as useful as a paperweight she renewed her on-again off-again desire for a new phone.

Since she wanted something that she could take and send pictures with, Chris had lamented several times that Mom needed a smartphone, she has been using Dad’s iPad for the last 9 months, and a friend from church had recently shown her their new iPhone (and I’d been told that several times), I figured I had no choice but to help her get an iPhone. Two hours at the AT&T store this afternoon and she is the proud owner of a new white iPhone 4S (with AppleCare+).

So, if you call Mom on her cell and she doesn’t answer, it is possible that she doesn’t remember how to answer the new phone, so leave a message. She may eventually remember how to play the message, and then will just need to remember how to make a call. On second thought, maybe you should just email her instead for the next week or so…

We lost our “kitten”, Velvet, on Wednesday, September 19th. She passed in her sleep after a long and spoiled life.

We will miss her company, her purring, and the way she always knew when we were blue or not feeling well.

Fay Update #3

by on Aug.23, 2008, under Jim Bingle Family, Richard Bingle Family

Fay has finally left Central Florida.

We had no problems with wind or flooding here at our place in Orlando, although it rained most of Friday. We’ll be heading out to the folks’ house on Sunday to check out the impact there. The folks are reporting that their screen enclosure needs a bit of repairing, but until we get out there and see it, I don’t know how bad it really is…

Fay Update #2

by on Aug.21, 2008, under Jim Bingle Family, Richard Bingle Family

Fay is still hanging around!

We actually had more wind and rain here in Orlando today than we’ve had with Fay so far. Nothing too bad, just wet and windy.

The folks’ area has been hammered over the last few days by Fay, receiving around 20″ of rain while Fay just sat off the coast! While there was wide-spread flooding in Brevard County (some of it pretty severe), their neighborhood seems to have weathered the deluge better than most. While they had some street flooding which kept them stranded in their neighborhood for a while, once Fay started moving again and they caught a break in the rain, the waters started to subside. The closest the water got was covering the street up to their next door neighbor. Luckily the lake behind them didn’t flood. Other neighborhoods weren’t nearly so lucky and lakefront and lakeview property quickly became lake property.

As I type this, the rain and wind has picked up again as a squall wraps its way through and they’ve just announced on the television that the inland counties have cancelled school again tomorrow.

Fay Update

by on Aug.20, 2008, under Jim Bingle Family, Richard Bingle Family

Fay continues to be a “non-event” here in Orlando, but the folks are getting tons of rain at their house. If you’ve seen the news footage of flooding in Brevard County, that is happening only a couple of miles from their house. The flooding is not really a problem in their neighborhood. One of the entrances to their subdivision does have standing water but the other does not.

Mom did report to me earlier that she’d seen a catfish swimming in the gutter.
